Best Practices for Security Clearance Search

The first option is to use our “Security Clearance” filter. This filter takes keywords/company information and other indicators within a candidate profile to identify cleared candidates. hireEZ's knowledge graph infers that a given set of keywords or phrases within a candidate's public profile disclose that they have a particular clearance, even if it's not directly stated on the profile. You can see how hireEZ comes to a conclusion about whether or not a candidate is cleared and what type of clearance they have directly in their clearance-related Profile Insights.

You can locate the Clearance filter at the left-side of AI Sourcing.

*Tip: it is a selection-limited filter, so you can only choose from a range of options given. Selecting multiple options will increase the number of people in your talent pool since the filter follows 'OR' logic when there are multiple inputs*

The second method you can use to identify candidates with a security clearance is by using our “Company filter”. This will help ensure that hireEZ is able to pick up on candidates that may not have directly listed any keywords associated with a clearance in their profile, but they may have a relevant clearance based on the companies they work for.

In this case, you can save a list of target companies that typically require security clearance within your account, and easily populate this list whenever needed. You may find a list of recommended companies at the end of the article.

How to Save Your Target Companies and Schools in hireEZ?

As in the screenshot below, I often source for cleared talent, and so I've created a saved company list titled "Top Companies for Cleared Talent". I can click this to have my saved list applied to this search criteria.

Select the "Current Only” from the drop-down to have great assurance that the candidate's clearance is active (note: clearances typically expire 2 years after someone leaves their current role where that clearance was required).

Another way to do this and achieve similar results is by adding a few companies and selecting the “Included Similar Companies” box. Doing so will search for similar companies to those that you've input.

Tip: When searching for candidates based on company or industry it doesn't hurt to add the clearance terms in the preferred skills section.

The third method you can try is targeting different clearance titles or acronyms in the Keywords filter. Input a boolean string to indicate clearance status - this search format is the most direct in terms of sourcing candidates that directly list their clearance type/status.

Note: Be sure to click the 'Search' button to ensure that your boolean string is being applied to the search.
