What is Diversity Hiring?
Diversity hiring is not just about hiring people from certain backgrounds. It is a practice of evaluating and hiring candidates from underrepresented groups and underserved communities based on their skills and abilities rather than their age, gender, race, religion, sexual orientation, or other characteristics that are irrelevant to their performance at work.
In terms of the function of organizations, a diverse and inclusive culture will enhance the collaborations among employees and supports the organizations to expand in the globalized market. Creating a diverse atmosphere is not something that you can achieve in a short period of time. With hireEZ, recruiters are able to make efforts from the sourcing stage.
In hireEZ, you can locate the Diversity filters within the AI Sourcing page and find options for both Underrepresented Groups and Underserved Communities.

Currently, hireEZ offers the options of six underrepresented groups, including Woman, Black or African American, Hispanic, Veteran, Native American, and Asian, and one underserved community: Detroit Region, Michigan, USA.
How does hireEZ Define Candidates’ Identities?
hireEZ respects the privacy of all candidates and we are aware that candidates are NOT required to mention their gender and backgrounds in their profiles. For Underserved Communities, hireEZ filter candidates with their Locations. For Underrepresented Groups, we identify the candidates’ diverse status through names, pronouns, and other key points in their experiences.
Here are some of the markers hireEZ uses to identify a candidate’s diversity.
-
Woman: hireEZ looks at names, pronouns, schools (i.e. Agnes Scott College, Alverno College, Barnard College), organizations.
-
Hispanics: hireEZ looks at names, languages, schools (i.e. Texas A&M International University, The University of Texas at El Paso, New Mexico State University-Dona Ana), and organizations.
-
Black or African Americans: hireEZ looks at names, languages, schools (i.e. Alabama A&M University, Barber-Scotia College, Central State University), and organizations such as Alpha Kappa Alpha and Alpha Phi Alpha.
-
Veterans: hireEZ looks at keywords such as “U.S. Marine Corps” and “U.S. Navy.”
-
Asians: hireEZ looks at surnames, languages, and schools.
-
Native Americans: hireEZ looks at surnames.
At the moment only the Woman filter works worldwide, the Hispanic filter works in both U.S. and Canada and the Asian filter works in the U.S., Canada, and most of the European countries*. The Black or African American filter works also works in the U.S., Canada, and most of the European countries*. The Veteran and Native American filters only work in the U.S. We are constantly expanding and improving our data collection to fulfill the demands of customers from other regions.
*The European countries include United Kingdom, Austria, Italy, Belgium, Latvia, Bulgaria, Lithuania, Croatia, Luxembourg, Cyprus, Malta, Czech Republic, Netherlands, Denmark, Poland, Estonia, Portugal, Finland, Romania, France, Slovakia, Germany, Slovenia, Greece, Spain, Hungary, Sweden, Ireland.
The Boolean Logic of the Underrepresented Groups Filter
Under the Underrepresented Group filter, choose one or multiple groups that you want to focus on during your sourcing process. You can also check the Select All box to search for candidates from all diverse backgrounds.
If you have picked more than one option there, specify whether you want to combine your search keywords with OR or AND logic.
The OR modifier will give you the results from all selected groups. For instance, if you put Woman OR Hispanic in the filter, you will find candidates who are either women or Hispanic.
If you select AND here, the candidates in your talent pool will be women with Hispanic backgrounds.
Admin: Combined Diverse Groups
If you’re the team admin and would like to further reduce the bias in your team’s hiring process, there’s a Combined Diverse Groups option to use. You can find this function under the Sourcing Configuration section of the Admin Console.
Once you have changed the search to Combined Diverse Group, the Underrepresented Groups filters will be combined into one single filter for all underrepresented candidates, and options for all minority groups will be replaced with a checkbox for Diverse Candidates.
Admin: Unbiased Sourcing Mode
In addition to the combined diverse group feature, there’s a Unbiased Sourcing Mode setting option to use. This will remove the candidate’s profile photo, and any other factors that may cause the judgment bias, to let the recruiters solely focus on the candidates' skills and requirements. You can locate this option under the Sourcing Configuration section.
